Neck & Shoulder Pain

Neck & Shoulder Pain

Whether you work at a desk, use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, or even sit on a comfy couch every night watching something on your TV, chances are you are training your head to be too far forward from your shoulders. Think of your head like a bowling ball attached to the end of a fishing pole. The further forward it is, the muscles in your neck and upper body have to work harder and harder to support it.

If you do this too long, those muscles lock up in a last-ditch effort to protect your spine. Primarily, this happens due to the small muscles between your shoulder blades turning off and large neck and upper back muscles taking over. Your shoulders may look rolled forward, one more than the other, and one might be higher.

If you have shoulder or neck pain or frequent headaches, there's a good chance the muscles around your shoulder blades are not working correctly. There is also a good chance that this is all happening because of an imbalance somewhere lower in your body, like maybe your hips, and it spreads muscular dysfunction up your body. It's all connected.
